- 2020: Prof. Peng Liu and his collaborators at University of Georgia and Georgia Tech have received a new NSF SaTC Award; the total amount is $1,200,000. This project is focused on security of industry IoT and manufacturing systems. Congrats!
- 2020: A paper co-authored by Prof. Peng Liu has received the 10 Year Test-of-Time Award from IEEE/IFIP DSN, a premier conference on dependable computing and fault tolerance. Congrats!
- 2020: A team with PIs from 4 universities (GMU, PSU, Dartmouth, Michigan) has received $500K add-on grant from U.S. Army Research Office. Congrats!

- Center Alumni News: Dr. Fengjun Li, who defended her thesis in Dec. 2010, has accepted a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at University of Kansas (EECS dept.)
- Grant: Professor Peng Liu has received a DARPA grant on insider mission identification, together with Boeing and RIT.
- Grant: Professor Peng Liu has been awarded a grant together with IBM T. J. Watson and IBM-UK. This project, sponsored by USA-UK Army, is titled “Practical Security Aware Distributed Data Querying in Coalition Scenarios.”
- December 2010 Press Release: Professor Heng Xu was quoted in a The Wall Street Journal online article, and was interviewed for smartphone privacy issues at the Kathleen Dunn show that airs on Wisconsin Public Radio, the second largest public radio network in the country broadcasting into five states.
- November 2010 Press Release: Professor Peng Liu gave a talk titled "Security and Privacy Cannot be Taken for Granted by the Cloud Computing Industry" at the Modern Engineering & Technology Seminar (METS) in Taipei, Taiwan on Nov 8. A main goal of this seminar is to let the Taiwan Government get advice from experts in the US on critical economic development initiatives, such as renovation of modern municipalities, green energy, cloud computing, and sustainable health care. In the area of Cloud Computing, three experts in the US are invited and Professor Liu is the only one from academia. - September 2010 Grant: Professor Heng Xu as the PI, with Prof. John M. Carroll, Prof. Mary Beth Rosson and Prof. Daniel Perkins, won a NSF research award on "MySpace Generation's Online Safety: Adolescent Attitude and Behavior, Parental Mediation, and Educational Intervention".
- August 2010 Grant: Professor Heng Xu as the Co-PI, with Prof. Madhu Reddy as the PI, won a NSF research award on "Collaborative Privacy Practices: Exploring Privacy in Information Intensive Environments"

- April 2009: Penn State is to be re-designated, by DHS and the National Security Agency, as a "National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education" (CAE-Education) for academic years 2009-2014. The PSU’s re-designation application is led by Professor Liu. Prof. Squicciarini and Prof. Chu are co-leaders of this application.
- Jan 2009: Professor Liu is to serve as the program co-chair of AsiaCCS 2010 (http://www.dacas.cn/asiaccs2010/), which will be held in Beijing, China.
- Dec 2008: Professor Liu has given a Keynote Speech on Inscrypt 2008, titled "Privacy Preserving Information Brokering".
- Oct 2008: Professor Liu is to serve as the general chair of Securecomm 2009.
- Sept 2008: Professor Squicciarini won a NSF Cyber-Trust Medium-Size Grant "Securing Dynamic Online Social Networks" in collaboration with UT San Antonio and ASU.
- June 2008: Penn State is among the first universities in the nation to be designated, by the National Security Agency (NSA), as a "National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research" (CAE-Research) for academic years 2008-2013. Congratulations to the Cyber Security Lab members and all the security researchers at Penn State for their great contributions to this designation.
- May 2008: Professor Liu has been selected as a Program Co-Chair of INSCRYPT 2008: 4th International Conference on Information Security and Cryptology, which will be held in December 14-17 in Beijing, China.
- March 2008: Professor Liu has been selected as a Program Co-Chair of SecureComm 2008: 4th International Conference on Security and Privacy in Communication Networks, which will be held in September 22-25 in Istanbul, Turkey.
- Feb 2008: Professor Liu won an AFRL SBIR Phase II grant, led by IAI, Inc.
- Sept 2007: Professor Xu won a NSF Cyber Trust grant on "Privacy Assurance in Location-Based Services," joint with Professor Rosson and Professor Carroll.
- Sept 2007: Professor Liu won a collaborative NSF Cyber Trust grant together with George Mason University and Western Illinois University. This project is on Dynamic Damage Assessment and Recovery for data processing systems.
- June 2007: Professor Liu won an ARO STTR Phase II grant, led by IAI, Inc.
- Spring 2007: Professor Zhu won a NSF CAREER award titled "CAREER: Combating Worm Propagation in Emergent Networks."
- Mar 2007: Professor Liu won a 5-year MURI grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, titled "Autonomic Recovery of Enterprise-wide Systems after Attack or Failure with Forward Correction", joint with GMU and Columbia University. This project will take a "health care" approach to do non-stop enterprise computing in the face of cyber attacks.
- Spring 2007: Professor Xu’s Ph.D. dissertation on Privacy Considerations in the Location Based Services was a runner up for the 2006 ACM SIGMIS Doctoral Dissertation Award Competition.
